Parents are always looking for the right activities to keep their children engaged and busy. One of such activities is teaching them the sewing craft.

A good sewing project will keep and catch their attention, without any form of boredom.

That means such projects must be easy to learn, interesting and achievable under a limited period before kids lose interest. 

For this purpose, I’ve put together 6 easy sewing projects for kids.

Hanging Towel

Time: 30 Minutes

You always teach your kids to wash their hands, right? Take it to the next level by allowing them sew a hanging towel which will be used to wipe their hands after washing. In less than 30 minutes, with all items ready, they’ll come up with a towel that belongs only to them.

What they will need:

  • Thread
  • Dish Towel
  • Small scrap of interfacing 8.5″ x 2.5″
  • Coordinating fabric scrap 8.5″ x 5″
  • Scissors

Girl Doll Dress

Time: 30 Minute

I know your little girl has a doll, every little girl does. I want to guess the name of the doll is princess. This is the time to give princess a change of cloth, a perfectly sewn dress. Let your kids follow this tutorial and sew a dress for princess. In less than an hour, this kid project can be finished. Look towards sewing for an 18” doll or measure the one you have.

What they will need:

  • 24 inches
  • 25″ ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Doll Pattern (You can download one here)
  • 5″ X 11″ pieces of fabric
  • Safety Pin.

That’s it, your kid should be able to make this doll dress.

Pleated Headband

Time: 45 Minute

You always wear head bands for your little girl, making her look adorable. This won’t take much of their time, 45 minute the headband is ready to wear. Let them choose the material and color they want, this will make them love the project and want to do more. What they will need:

  • About 3″x 11.5″ scrap of fabric
  • Glue Gun
  • Elastic Headband
  • Scrap of Matching Felt
  • Pearls or Buttons (Optional)

Time: 25 Minute

The aim is easy projects that will make kids want to try out more sewing and this is one of such. Think of this as a perfect gift for a book lover with your kid name inscribed on it with thread.

What they will need:

  • 4″ x 3.25″ Cardstock
  • Thread
  • Scissors

Fun Pillowcase

You’ve always being the one choosing pillow case for them. Time to allow your kid choose their own pillow case fabric and make it a DIY project. This fast and fun project can be achieved with the following in just 25 minutes;

What they will need:

  • 45”-60” wide fabric
  • Thread
  • Scissors

Chapstick Keychain Holder

I think this is the easiest of it all, a 10-minute sewing project for your kids. Something cute to keep their lips balm and hold the key.  Simple and easy sewing task for kids.

  • Little Fabric Scrap
  • Keyring
